"CTGP Deluxe" mod for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now

The days of Wii modding brought forth a big number of diverse entries, from New Super Mario Bros. mods and its recreations of past titles or entirely new maps and gameplay, to Super Smash Bros. Brawl and its still strong mod scene with new fighters, maps, music and almost everything in the game, to also Mario Kart Wii mods, which prompted the inception of the now widely known "CTGP" named hacks for anything Mario Kart.

Since then, CTGP mods for Mario Kart titles have been available for each entry of the series since, with Wii being the first one, then Mario Kart 7 (CTGP-7) and now for Mario Kart 8, which is based on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for this mod, titled "CTGP Deluxe".

This new CTGP entry adds entirely new tracks to the original Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which range from past Mario Kart tracks from the SNES, GBA, 3DS and other older entries, to tracks from other racing franchises, like Diddy Kong Racing, new tracks inspired by levels from other non-racing games, like Sonic Unleashed, to entirely new custom maps made exclusively for this CTGP DX release.

CTGP Deluxe adds 14 new cups, with 56 additional custom tracks and an all-new soundtrack with brand new features, and is available for download right now for those interested in trying it out in either their own hacked Switch, or through an emulator, at the CTGP Deluxe website, with install instructions available on the site as well.

this is what happens when i try to run it
OK, just watched your video, and yeah, it's strange behavior with the white rectangle on the right part of the screen. The new tracks can be accessed by moving your cursor all the way to the right, and then pressing the R button. You might have missed that detail. Are the normal tracks and DLC tracks all working?

i've been trying that, movin the cursor all the way to the right and press R. it only switches between normal and dlc tracks. normal and dlc tracks do work btw

The white rectangle usually means that files are missing. I assume you used an intermediary protocol to transfer the files, like ftp or mtp.

Shut down your switch, take out the SD card and use an SD card reader to copy the files directly. Remember to delete the old mod files first.

and also run the archive bit fix if you use Mac or OS.

i used my windows laptop for downloading and file transferring.
i actually downloaded the file 4 times already
i transferred the files first thru usb using the usb connection thru hetake
then i took out the sd card and used an sd card reader
i deleted the game, all updates dlcs and save files, reinstalled everything
im still ending up with the same results

So I guess the only thing left for you to try would be to downgrade your firmware to a version prior to v20 to gain additional RAM. If you have a spare SD card, I would just try using that with a new emunand.

are there any mods for homebrew switch that add courses or any other features to battle mode, particularly shine thief? My fam is so addicted to this mode!

It looks like it's not possible to save time trial times on the custom tracks. Is that the case, or am I missing something?

Probably to not mess up with your regular save file, as they share the same.
Figured it was something like that, thanks! I do have ghost data viewable on the custom tracks, but it's for a different track, which is interesting as I can see the track from high up as Mario flies around in the air.

Iirc the dev once said to me that every single custom track "behaves" as it is the first track of the first vanilla cup (I dunno what it was, Mario Stadium?) which is also the reason that you can't "three star" all the new cups.

Holy shit, seriously?
Guess I'll stay on 19.x forever then.
Yeah, 21+ Firmware allows for less access to the RAM from Atmosphere, and they reduce it further in 22. SciresM confirmed this killed a few of the heavier mods for TOTK, but I don't know a single person who tried CTGP Deluxe on it.

I was wondering if someone here had updated past 21 and could confirm if it effectively kills this mod or not.,

Damn that really sucks and is an absolute show stopper for me to ever update past 19.x so thanks for letting me know.
On the other hand I think I'm moving with my Switch (1) gaming to PC (Steam device family) for the majority of the library, especially if the upcoming Steam Machine would allow MK8D with CTGP Deluxe to look even better.

Just so people know, I checked on their Discord and people claim that this runs without issues up to FW22. The important thing is to ensure your game never updated past version 3.03
