RAGE 360 Full Install 21-22GB

If you want to install upcoming shooter Rage on your Xbox 360 you'll need to make some serious room – about 22GBs.

id Software programming legend John Carmack revealed the gargantuan install size during his QuakeCon keynote (reported by GamingBolt)

"On the 360 we don't have a partial install option," he said. "It's all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate. It means you have to install 21/22GB of stuff which takes a long time but if you've got it and you play it on the 360 that's the way to go."

Why is it the way to go? Because not installing the game means latency.

"Once you get everything from memory that works pretty good, but if you're coming straight from the hard drive then the first time you walk into everything from the DVD or from the Blu-ray – even worse in terms of total latency time – you listen to that Blu-ray churning around as it's pulling everything in," Carmack continued.[/p]

One more reason why the PS3 BD are nice to have.. I remember a few complaints from 360 owners when they heard FFXIII was on a few more discs than just one like for the PS3

Meh, this is the only reason why I prefer multi-disc games on the PS3 instead.
I would love to play Skyrim on each platfrom, but I have deceided I will stick with the PS3.
Quite sure its going to have 3-Disc minimum on the 360(my guess).

I can name of ton of PS3 games that require an install. It took almost an hour before I could play MLB. At least you can play Rage on the 360 out of the box and then later let let it install over night.

Then I have to disappoint you, you'll still have to switch discs after a data install. It's an anti-piracy measure.
Otherwise one person could buy a multi-disc game, install it on his HDD and pass it on to a friend. They'd only have to have one of the 3/4 disc to play the game.

I never played any of my xbox games (except Halo 3) without installing them to the hard drive. Not even after I got the slim model with the newer DVD drive.

Thanks for clarifying this. Anti-Piracy, pfft, they could just make it that everybody needs disc 1 to play the game, that way you couldn't give it to anyone.
