I bought one of those R4 3DS Upgrade SDHC Gold Pro 2020 cards with a 32 GB flash card to see what I would get with it. This thread summarizes my observations.
The website printed on it is "R4iSDHC (dot) com".
The first thing when I put the card in I got the "Firmware Expired" message. I set the system clock back a year and tried again. It started to work when set to 2019.
The included kernel was version 3.9.
Now that I was in the menu I checked out the folders. When opening the one containing the included games it gave an error that a file name was too long.
None of the buttons dismissed the error message.
System off, go on the PC, shorten the file name, try again.
I got this this error 3 times in total
The flash card came with 500 games. Some of them had nonsensical file names. The menu maxed out at displaying 300, leaving 200 hidden. Dividing them into several folders made things more manageable.
Next up was to get a newer kernel. So I copied the flash card to my PC. Formatted it and started fresh. I got version 4.0b from the printed website.
Using this the screen went out after a few seconds and I quickly found the sleep setting to stop that.
I now realize this is what the SWRESET.SYS file does. Still haven't seen it recreate the DEMON0.SYS that was previously on the card.
Time to improve. I followed the instructions to install TWiLightMenu and YSMenu. Though the way these instructions were written was slightly confusing to me.
I concluded that this particular card wasn't part of the "Flashcart Loader" folder and proceeded with the instructions for YSMenu.
These instructions may have a mistake. It says to "Extract the files from the DSONEi SDHC YSMenu folder" then mentions R4.dat which isn't found in that folder.
I used the "R4i-SDHC YSMenu" folder instead and continued on.
With TWiLightMenu loading up I checked out the emulators.
Genesis - Had to change the file extension to get them to show. The selected game doesn't run, instead the emulator loads up and a game is selected from within that menu.
Games with text would extend off the screen. Screen position can be moved but wasn't to my liking. Decided against keeping these games on the flash card.
SNES - Again the selected game doesn't run. SnemulDS says to "Select Rom" but doesn't show any. It seems this was not configured properly. I downloaded SnemulDS separately and in the cfg file set "ROMPath = /roms/snes". Now the list populates and I can run a game. Noticed odd graphics on the menu screen of certain games. My system froze up a few times but nothing I could repeat with any consistency.
