It's going to be those DSTTi type clones from R4i-SDHC.hk. This cart will only work on system firmwares through 1.4.4 (DSi) and 4.2.0 (3DS), you cannot run this cart on anywhere higher unless you install custom firmware.

Update: https://archive.flashcarts.net/r4i-...mited_Upgradable_FWUpdate_3DS4.2_DSi1.4.4.zip
Instructions: https://sanrax.github.io/flashcart-guides/cart-guides/dstti/

Note: You'll need to make two copies of "TTMENU.DAT" called "R4i.TP" and "iLL.iL" before transferring the rest of the kernel files to the microSD card.

Only on 1.4.4 firmware for DSi and 4.2.0 for 3DS. If your system is anything higher than these version/s, then it requires custom firmware to boot the card. But, if your system is a OG DS or DS Lite, then it doesn't require updating or custom firmware.

You copy all of the update files to the root of your microSD card, then launch the updater .NDS file from the kernel menu.

After the upgrade, you can still continue to use the flashcart like normal.

yes i understand and thank you for help, but i want to see if there is a hardware solution like to dump the nand of a new r4 and inject it in the tsop48 nand of this old r4 , any chance ?

This is not a NAND, it's a flash chip. There's a difference. I'm not 100% certain on what you're trying to achieve, but no, you cannot reprogram the flash chip to my understanding using conventional 'homebrew' methods. However, the original DSTT can be reprogrammed with ntrboot-flasher, only the DSTTi carts are unsupported like what you have there.

If your R4 operates as intended then I don't see a reason to fix it. Unless, if the cart doesn't boot, then you can fix a bricked cart by performing a hotswap with a working flashcart whilst updating, but this only works if you have an Original DS model.

You do not need to do anything if the flashcart already works as it should. There's no need to reprogram the flash chip with a programmer.

Sure, let's assume you can reprogram the FLASH chip using hardware.

But then comes the problem of you being completely unable to understand what the contents on that FLASH chip. Much less the task of making it compatible with higher versions.

You'd be better off softmodding your DS consoles and deleting the cartridge blacklist rather than try to spend 10 years on this.

Thank you so muuch for the custom firmware guide, it worked.
And i was trying to configure my R4 card with your instructions (all your comments here) I did that whit the update and it crashed, i mean, i launched the R4 with the archives with 'DSTTi clone ysmenu' and all of that, it opened but when i did the update thing and it said the update ended sucesfully, i reboot my console and when i tried to open it again ita was just white screen and nothing load.

Reformat the SD card, then try testing the old kernel. https://archive.flashcarts.net/r4i-sdhc.hk/old/r4i-sdhc.hk_Unlimited_Upgradable_Kernel_4.2.0.9A.zip

Or it's more than likely that, as you were updating, the cartridge wasn't making a good connection which resulted in a bricked cart. You could try putting a sticker behind it or put a thin piece of paper underneath the contacts. That does sometimes happen with these cheap clones.

I tried with this archives and it seems that the upgrade of before damaged the R4 or something, i don't know, at firts i thought the micro sd i was using it broke out of nowhere or i did something wrong because, it started to say it's 'write protected' i tried several tutorials to fix it and just one one did work but minutes later it came back to the same, i just tried with another micro sd, i used the archives with the link you provided me and just the same, white screen when in launch it on the console, so I checked in the computer and all the archives are not there and again 'write protected'. I think i just have bad luck with this. But i wanted to comment on it.

You'll need to have an Original DS model to unbrick the card via the hotswap method, as later DS models would not allow you to do this. So, launching the updater with a working cart, then at the screen where it says to press A, before you press anything you swap it with the bricked cart. Make sure the microSD card is in the bricked cart when doing this, otherwise it wouldn't be able to read the update files.

If you do not have an Original DS to do this with, I'd suggest you instead go with a more modern flashcart, such as an Ace3DS+ which will work with all DS models regardless of system version. Or, check out the list of recommended flashcarts here: https://www.flashcarts.net/ds-quick-start-guide

The hotswap method? No. I have tried it with this specific card; through TWiLight Menu, NTR Launcher, Slot-1 Launcher, amongst all of the others on both 3DS and DSi consoles. None of them worked, I'm afraid.

You'll be better off buying a new flashcart, not worth the effort in my opinion.
