No it has nothing to do with your 3DS firmware. DO NOT update it until after we get the kernel working and can run the bootloader update..

I have just deleted everything on the memory card and ready to start again.
What folders or files do you want me to try first, from the ones you gave me to download?

Format your card with Panasonic SD card formatter. Download Wood from here and extract the files onto the hard drive of your computer. Copy the "_rpg" folder and _DSMENU.DAT file onto your SD card and give that a try.

I think I may have a clone, that is the reason why i am getting a loading screen. My card takes a micro sdhc. i have just read the original takes a standard SD card. Could this be the reason?

EDIT: Still stuck on the loading screen, this has to be a dud!

The original R4 takes a Micro SD card your www.r4ids.cn takes a Micro SDHC card. That is perfectly correct. All Slot-1 flashcarts use a Micro SD or Micro SDHC card.

Thanks for the confirmation, do you think the card may be faulty?

Okay i have made some progress, following a guide i found on one site. I copied over all the contents from the R4igold_3Ds2.2 patch and from the wood_R4_gold 1.42.
i have know got past the loading screen and have a screen saying gbatemp exclusive and the microSD card flashing.

Edit: I have now gone into the the card and it is showing both patch files, I assume I have to choose the one ending in _NDSL?

Just tried the "3DS22Patch_R4iGold3DS_NDSi.nds" when it comes to the card check it fails - Result reinsert and try again

Okay at last we've got the kernel working. Now to get the bootloader update working.

The "3DS22Patch_R4iGold3DS_NDSi.nds" is the one you should use if you are using a DSi or 3DS.

If you have access to a DSLite you need the "3DS22Patch_R4iGold3DS_NDSL.nds" file (this does not work on a DSPhat for some reason in my experience).

If the patch fails try rebooting again (switch the console off and then try again). If you cannopt get it to update on a 3DS then find someone you can borrow a DSi or DSLite off (running the bootloader updates on a 3DS does not always work with a lot of carts).

Yeah its definitely not working with my 3DS, gonna try and borrow one from somebody.
Thanks for all your help by the way buleste!

Quick question

Am i going to have to borrow a ds everytime a new firmware comes out?EDIT: Can i also now update my 3ds as we have confirmed that i cant use it to update the card anyway?

You can update your 3DS if you want but personally I would wait until I knew that someone has a DSLite that I can borrow.

In theory as long as you run the bootloader update before you run the 3DS firmware update then you will never need to borrow or own a DSLite. In practise though it's difficult to say as like I say the updates are supposed to run on a 3DS but they don't always work and they will run on a 3DS for some but not for others. It's not just the www.r4ids.cn that is affected by this issue either as there are a lot of carts that have the same problem.

Is there anyway to verify what bootloader i am running on my cart?
I would have thought the sellers would have updated it for me with the latest because i bought mine early this month.

Anybody?
The way to check your boot loader is by the flash cart icon and what firmware the card will run on. Google "R4i-sdhc and 1.41 icon game" and you you should come up with an answer. You can check other firmware by the icons. It's a process or you can always ask the flash card team. Go here to check out a cool little chart and look around at the flash cart classification too, if you have some time. Good info.....

Thanks for the info jimmy but i just did a search using what you said and adding my own but never got a picture of halo and wings with the word doruso.

EDIT: Even that chart chart has n reference to it.

Look at the top of the chart on the left side and you'll see r4i-sdhc DSi ver 1.4.3 and some Chinese characters (the chinese is the dorasu game). ;) It's in Chinese and that's why your Google search came up empty.

Do not update your r4i gold 3ds which can support 3ds 3.0.0-5 directly.
You should not use the wood r4 for r4idsn.
You should download wood r4 1.42 for r4i gold from www.r4ids.cn.

Okay thanks for your all your help guys.
So what tranfeer is saying, my current bootloadsr is up to date and i can update my 3ds safely?
If so, how did he confirm this?
Is it the image of the halo and wings?
