ROM Hack r4i card really necessary?

g'day
So i've been doing a real heap of research on the r4i card. I will be using it with lameboy so I can play older gameboy games as well.
After watching some tutorials I have wondered. is buying the r4i card really necessary? i mean the guy just formats the card then downloads the software from the website anyway. Can I not just use my own SDHC card?

If you want Wood R4 support, DSi/3DS support, and SDHC, then the R4i Gold (url on card: http://r4ids.cn/) is necessary.
If you only have a DS Lite/Phat and don't mind using non-sdhc microSD card, the just go with an R4 1.1 clone.

Sure, just stick the SDHC cart into one of your DS games. Just make sure to pick a DS game that has an SD card slot on it.

All kidding side, lolno, you don't even use the SDHC slot on the DSi/3DS with flash carts. In fact, you can't. Flash carts use a MicroSD that plugs into themselves.

he doesnt use a 'flash cart' just a micro SD with the normal SD 'backpack' so it goes in the slot

Fuck that's one big rip off, if you want an R4, get the R4i Gold as Catboy mentioned (http://nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=149) don't bother wasting your time with other R4 clones.

Or even better yet, get a Supercard DSTwo.

No. Be very careful with carts that have "R4" in the name. The original R4 team died out years ago, but people still make carts with "R4" in the name because China doesn't give a shit about trademarks. There's way more bad R4 carts out there than good.

I have just purchased a SuperCard DSTwo card. the latest firmware on the website is 4.5.0-10x. my 3DS is 4.5.0-10E. will this be a problem at all?
