Dammit, seems like I made a mistake purchasing an R4. Any chance of an update soon?

It's a great card. All games work on it. Download play is 100% It has cheat support

It just hasn't got pokemon Wii compatibility. Are you even going to play this game? If not the R4 will suit you just fine.

Let me just repeat that: R4 works with all games. 100% download play compatibility.

I suppose. I'm having a hard time since I'm easily prusuaded, so I'm just trying to make a list of advantages/disadvantages.

I ditched my R4 (well sold it) for a Cyclo DS, mainly for the SDHC support and Wii Connectivity. I bought the R4 because i was a n00b at flash carts but since i have owned mine for a while now, i ordered a Cyclo, in my opinion they have overtaken the R4. But none the less the R4 is perfect for first time users.

-R4

-Pros-
Cheap and effective at what it does: Play ROMs
100% Compatibility (Not including the stupid games that no one will ever play.)
100% DL Play (Not Cooking Mama2 I heard?)
DS to Wii works for Geometry Wars (Do you have a Wii?

)

-Cons-
Doesn't work with Pokemon.. But as you said, you have a Retail Cart.
No Ingame Brightness changing (I would hardly call this a con... You can do this with a certain Action Replay code, I believe.)
No Slowdown during games (I really see no point in slowing down games.

)

-CycloDS Evolution

-Pros-
SDHC Support (4GB+ A bit pricy if you ask me.)
Connectivity to Pokemon works
You get to change the brightness in games (A code in R4's Cheat.DAT can do this, I believe.)
You get to slowdown gameplay (Eh... Useless?)

-Cons-
A bit pricy. Well, it costs more than an R4.

Yeah... I'd stay with an R4 unless you want to buy a bigger MicroSD.

meh, i'm sticking with my R4.

The only problem is that I don't want to be seen as a "noob pirate" or a noob at flashcarts, I've been in the scene for a bit and have written a few pieces of homebrew myself.

The only people that will judge you as being a noob pirate for using an R4 are idiots anyway. Can't think of anyone that would say that anyway.

Seen as a noob pirate? Why? Because you own an R4?

I don't see any reason why anyone would be a Noob pirate just because they own a different Flashcart...

On a side note: Acekard RPG has died.. Right? No one has recoded another Firmware AFAIK.

The R4 isn't just for "noobs", it's for anyone who wants a cheap and effective flashcart that has 100% compatibility with games and has a few extra features like auto DLDI, cheats and download play.

Only the nerds will tell you that the R4 is for "noobs"...

The R4 is by no means a "noob" cart. It is my first flashcart and probably my only one. It is the one I got after much research and I have not been disappointed with it. I had also gotten an M3 Perfect Lite slot-2 cart to go along with it which I have also loved.

P.S. - I make my own backups of the games so no downloading roms for me. I have a nine page long thread somewhere around here about doing it for the DS and a much shorter and buried one that managed to die on its own for the GBA. I had to request a moderator to lock the DS one as it lived too long.

They both end up showing how it can be done on an unmodified DS (i.e. don't need to void your warranty flashing FlashME).

Well, the R4 is generally seen as the "beginners flashcart", and I don't want to be labeled as such.
Then, you should get those old slot2 flashcarts.
Which you have to do the patching in computer.....
or
get the SCDS1(SDHC), and mess around with it option.

It may look more professional for you...

I don't have problem using slot2(only problem is I lost my SCminiSD along with old phat

)
but I change to R4+EZ3in1 because it is more practical
(i don't have to go around with patching software in my pocket)
