Hacking R4DS how to access files once downloaded

Hi I have recently purchased a R4 for my ds and have downloaded the appropriate firmware but cant seem to open any of the files on my computer- keeps saying that windows cant open the file. Can anybody give my some advise as i have read all the guides on this and many other forums. I did wonder whether i need to have my micro sd card inserted ? Please advise Thanks

You don't need to open the files, just unpack the archive and copy to the Micro SD. Simple

If the firmware comes in a RAR file (can't remember if it does), you need WinRAR.

What does it matter if its open sourced or not?? .... you dont have to buy it! its optional donations!

..so technically its still FREE is it not ??

unlike winrar you need to buy to get rid of the nag screens after the trial expires

and who needs the gui once its installed you just right click and extract here or extract to folder named same as filename

anyhow im not here to start an argument over compression/decompression programs im just offering more advice

Winrar is basically free,all that happens is you get a small pop up every time you start the program that it's expired but it never stops working......

yea, I though that was a trick at first but it really never expires

though I have a registered ver anyway

You can get a registered version of WinRAR in forums out there, since I do got one.
