last official kernel is 1.18. everything else is either the same thing or is just hex edited and only compatible with the clone it applies to pretty much.

if you you're using an R4 I suggest you use YSmenu. search for forums to find out more.

I'm %99 sure it is. I don't think you're able to run cloned firmwares on the R4, nor the other way around.

Yes it is frustrating that the R4's never get updated anymore, this is a result of the company that made R4 breaking up and going their own ways, copyright was kapoof and clones started popping up all over the place

Not necessarily. As far as I know, the R4 Team didn't implement advanced clone-detecting routines, so a well-built clone would run it perfectly fine.
