Waiting can take quite a long time, possibly years. Buying a DS flashcart now is definitely the best option since no one knows of the future.

No. The mechanisms used to circumvent the DS Lite and phat's security are different from those used to get around the DSi and 3DS's security. This will never work for a flashcard that isn't marketed to the DSi or 3DS.
