Hacking R4 Will NOT be compatable with DSi?!

Excuse my curiosity, and general stupidity for asking this but...considering the device self boots, I think that will be something the new firmware will attempt to cancel out. I don't think they'll be able to cancel out the "tricking" of any cart that boots like a regular DS game, as that'd create such an issue for some possible retail games.

So, I was wondering; is there a way to convert the R4 into one of those kinda cards, to boot it up like a legit game? Or do I need to buy another card?

I was actually considering getting a DSi, if they got rid of the bottom screens filter and removed the LCD blur on the top screen.

Meh, Nintendo will probably try to make sure people can't pirate it, their "big" plan being DSi games...? Those probably won't sell though, and I'm imaging only 1st party Nintendo titles being them. Oh well.

You're trying to convince them of complete bullshit here. While the normal R4 won't work on the DSi there are still cards out there that run (Acekard 2i, Ez-Flash Vi etc.).

Either don't get a DSi, or use some other card than the R4, like Ez-Flash Vi or TTDSi.
To my understanding, the R4 is dead, and since it is one of the more popular cards, it's doubtful that it will work on the DSi without any updates.

Really though, what is so great about the DSi? The only thing that is kinda cool is the cameras, but those aren't really all that great.

I'd personally just stick to the DSL, but that's just me, I guess.

in sum, Dsi does not see the card.

Unless that says R4i it will not work on the DSi. There is also no point in buying the R4 as the R4 team has been sued. If you want a flash card that will work with DSi then get a AceKard2i.

while it's good that you tested it for us, the r4 not working is old news. i haven't seen anything about other cards being tested. i'm most curious about the cyclo. if it works, i'm all over it. but not for a year or whenever the dsi hardware drops its price.

If I was buying a new card I'd probably get something different but my R4 has been working perfectly for 2 years. I play a fair few games and all the ones I've tried have worked, even if some need patches/codes.

You have to ask yourself this - if the card was really that good why don't they (the people who made the card, not the website that sells it) sell it under an original name? Why do they resort to deceiving suppliers and customers by making it look like another product?

As for why they won't sell it under an original name is purely for lifting on the R4's name and reputation, because while all of us here at GBAtemp know the R4 is outdated and just doesn't cut it anymore (mostly due to lack of firmware upgrades and later the nintendo lawsuits), alot of people in the world who find out about flashcarts will find the R4 first because of the name and reputation over the years. And of course a lot of people don't know any better and think there R4 i/ultra/pro/sdhc/smack is genuine which it of course is not. That's why these companies use there name.

As to their reliability it is of course close to squat because of this cheap name/reputation scam, although some clones do still have good support nonetheless.

it makes me smile because you're soo right delpickko, when i heard that i could play games without buying them i asked a few mates and they led me straight to the R4. I know a guy who calls every flashcart an R4, they're just really popular and well known. If you ask a noob [lol me a few months ago] whether he wants a cyclods or an R4, he'd most likely go for the R4. Right now i have an R4 and i got it for £30, i know i could've got a cyclo for that much and i wish i did.

I might buy an acekard2 soon, cyclos are just too expensive for me.

the dsi seems pretty cool but i was disapointed that they didnt update the graphics cos that would've been the perfect handheld. I guess thats why they didn't do it, maybe they'd run out of ideas

And as for the people who make the flashcarts, well done you've outwitted nintendo

Did you forget to read the infinite amount of messages that say the R4 Team no longer exists? Plus there's alot more needs doing then just changing the autoboot, the card needs a completely different booting method.

Did you not read the message I posted directly above this one? The R4 team no longer exists, so there will never ever ever ever ever ever be a fix of any kind for the R4. It's beginning to feel like the dead parrot sketch in here.
