Hello,
I have the r4 SDHC

(as there are supposedly more versions, I included pictures) and I had a whole lot of trouble making it compatible with newer games. I tried almost everything, but there were freeze, bootloader errors, and a whole lot of other nasty stuff. And the official firmware from https://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/ wasn´t working right. After like 3 afternoons of googling I gave up. And today I tried again. And I found a solution! On this site: http://wood-for-r4sdhc-forum.1049371.n5.nabble.com/R4SDHC-stuck-to-load-games-td5706598.html somebody had the same problem, and at the end there were files that worked. I don´t know what firmware it is or how it was done. Anyways it still has some small problems I hoped you could help me with.

1. What is the best software to use?
There are lots and I am lost. What should I use? WAIO, MAIO, Wood for clones, Wood for R4 SDHC, YSMenu, TTMenu, RetroGameFan... The list goes on. What has the best features and compatibility? I think that it´s the RetroGameFan version of YSMenu, so all my questions appeal to that.
2. Could somebody help me with enabling soft-reset to my R4 SDHC menu as described here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-use-softreset-in-r4-ysmenu.203137/
I don´t think i fully understand it.
3. I also have problems with this wonderful game named meteora: http://meteora.lo2k.net/
When I start it from RGF it blackscreens, when i start it from firmware, it plays but doesn´t save.

I know that this cart is really old, and I have a DSTWO ordered, but I have two ds-es and it would be a pity if I couldn´t use this cart to it´s full potential.
I am glad for any help, am sorry for my english as a non-native, and wish you a good day!

Yeah, and that's the kernel for the R4 and not the R4i. R4i-sdhc.com produced a R4 SDHC, too.

Looking at their site, I can´t find any non R4i cart, and while their design is somewhat similar, it can clearly be seen, that even their oldest cart (under products) has eye catching marketing slogans like WI-FI! UPGRADE! and so on. I can try it, but I doubt it. I will sincerely apologize and thank you, if it proves me wrong, will report here. Anyways thanks for helping the best you could.

Did it work? I used google pictures to find your card: http://www.r4ie.com/r4-ds-sdhc-card. You can find the link on the picture of the box.
Their download page http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp is very confusing but you need the "R4-SDHC Kernel download (without "i" mark)".

For the best compatibility, yeah you're better off using Ysmenu with RGF's patches.

Everything should be okay if the linked kernel works with the card. It got updated on 2014-01-22.

Sorry for not answering, was busy lately.
The kernel doesnt work, as I suspected. Its probaby for some other R4 knockoff. The wierd thing is, that RGFYSmenu is not working either. It boots, but has no background and cant open anything. The only thing that works is the download I posted. I am really confused?!
