Hacking R4 SDHC question. Please help!

Ever since I got this R4, EVERY GAME, except Puyo puyo and soul silver for WHATEVER REASON, have SOMETHING related to corruption happen to them! From SAVING CORRUPTED (358/2 days, ZX Advent) to BECOMING CORRUPTED FOR NO REASON (Jump Ultimate Stars, Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow).


I used 1.26 kernel and have updated to 1.29 with NO luck.

I use R4 SDHC. So please mrmbers of gbatemp, you're seriously my only hope.

Try reformatting your SD card after making a backup of you SD card, then copy the backup files back.

Also I use v 1.25 and it seems to be the most useful version. The higher ones just have 50MB of extra junk called Moonshell2 and there is never a fixlog.

... are you properly ejecting the microSD before removing it from the PC?

This is my 1st r4. I didn't think I had to be aware of clones.

I put it in right.

I fear you may have bodged your SD card. i corrupted my old SD card for my R4 by removing it too soon from Pc

a little tip. when you put something on your card. after its "copied" according to the PC count to 10 after its finished to give it like a "cool down" time before removing it and do it gently dont yank it out to be certain you dont corrupt it

Buy a new micro SD you can get them WELL cheap on buy sites. test it. if you still have the problem. consult GBAtemp once again for more advice.

OR you could do what you SHOULD be doing, and properly eject the microSD. Open the Computer menu, scroll down to your microSD card, right click it, and pick "Eject". The microSD's drive name should change to "Removable Disk". THAT means it is safe to remove it.

It's frightening how many people have no idea what they are doing, and just corrupt their own data.

And whenever I replaced the 2 files in order to downgrade/upload the kernel, it never got past the loading screen. It only worked with 1.26 and 1.29. Maybe other kernels will work now that it's formatting?...

Are you formatting with the Panasonic SD Formatter? You should be. It's universally accepted that it gives better, more stable results than the Windows format function.

That list is for real R4 cards only. Compatibility varies between real R4's and the various clones (and the various clone firmwares) so that list may not be accurate for the R4 SDHC.

I know that, but so far it's been pretty accurate. Games that don't work also have a link to patches and save files if needed.

No. Odds are you put a firmware that was meant for another cart onto yours, and then you corrupted your own data by improperly removing the microSD. Find the proper firmware (odds are the web address is right on the cart's sticker) and start ejecting your SD cards before yanking them out.

I do sometimes take my cart out in between gameplay. So that actually sounds plausible! Though I don't see an eject button on the micro sd reader. (Maybe I didn't look hard enough) Thank you!

He's talking about in your operating system (such as Windows). When you update the MicroSD, look at the bottom for an icon that will be labelled safely remove hardware, go to that and remove the device safely.

Or you could right click on it in my computer and choose eject from there.
