Hacking R4 or Acekard 2?

well i got an R4 before it was popular, and before it even came to North America. i got it for $50 (CAD) with a 1gb micro sd (kingston). even to this date, it runs 99% of the games i play (only games that took a while to fix was final fantasy crystal chronicles). it can run ALL my homebrews. it comes with a rom trimmer program (not auto though, but it takes like 15 seconds longer), and i don't need an sdhc, just like ppl don't need 32gb ipods. it was awesome for its time

but i digress, the r4 is awesome for me, but comparing at current price/features, get the acekard.

I've read Urza's posts, and they're not all flames. Besides, if he does flame, he provides enough evidence to win, etc.

But I do find his last statement very unessesary.

Since my comment was apparently too subtle for you, what I'm saying is that you're in no position to criticize what purchases I "need", when the purchase of a DS in the first place is completely unnecessary.

I would love to have a 32GB mp3 player. Having a good chunk of my library with me wherever I went would be excellent.

Sure I don't "need" it, but I don't need an mp3 player either.

It just comes down to how much you want it, how useful you would find it, and how much you're willing to spend. Just because you don't think its worth it doesn't mean nobody else does.

i think you fail to realize that i said, "I" don't need sdhc. i didn't say, sdhc was completely useless, and no one needs it, or u shouldn't get it etc etc. i just gave my brief opinion/experience with the r4, and left it at that. also, i just made a quick example with the ipod, and that wasn't my point.

Well here’s what I’m going threw right now, I have a R4 & am very happy with it but speed is a big deal to me. How fast it boots, quantity of games visible to pick from, how fast I can select the games/ apps… Because after all I only play 2% of the games out there anyway, So I had a friend wanting to get a R4 & after everyone here steering people away from it I recommended he get the CycloDS. Well it turns out I’m not the only speed freak, everything about the CycloDS is slow & he hates it. From boot time to the menu & reset, warning along with many features he don’t care about like slow-mo, real time save, but with all the R4 fakes & inflated price I would still look for one of the others.

But I don’t understand why people tell the truth about the R4 problems & BS or don’t mention the bad with these other cards, leading people to purchase cards with problems no one seems to talk about. The only bad thing I ever herd about the CycloDS was it had a bump under the sticker, now who cares about that? If there are problems with the Acekard 2 I hope they get mentioned because many of the gbatemp reviews are a joke, talking about the cardboard box it comes in but mention nothing about many of the problems I pointed out.

CatScam, I currently own 3 Cyclos and have never had any of the problems you are describing. In fact, sonce I purchased my first Cyclo about a year ago, I won't purchase ANYTHING else. I also have owned a R4 and DSLink in the past, and believe me, there is no comparison. Of the 5 or 6 flash carts I've used in the past, the Cyclo is the most solid, compatible, and user-friendly cart I've used. That doesn't mean that every single Cyclo that is manufactured will be perfect.

But that is true.
Buying a R4 last year might have been the hot thing to do, but now? Come on. It's like buying a 1-2 GB MP3 player for $150 and then go trolling on forums saying how it is the best because "you don't need 40 GB of music".

NEGATIVE DOES not SUPPORT HCSD (high capacity sd cards ... 2Gb is max u can put in)

still 2gb = 20-50 games enjoy!

edit: according to acekard2 specs/review it is indeed better than the R4 ... get the acekard 2 ... (if its not too much more $$)

Prolly cause there are still so many people out there that swear by it... when I was trying to decide which flashcard to buy I was confused by all the people pushing the R4, since it seemed outdated... and now, looking back, I see it was outdated. Heh.
