I just got an email back
I mean 1 card killing 2 DSs might be believable. But 2 different cards killing 2 different DSs? It can't be.

No, that's not what they're actually claiming at all:

QUOTEThe DS was off, then we put in the chip (proper way) then flicked the power on and it immediately shut down the console and all the power died.  We cannot even turn it on now.  The DS were fully charged and operational B4. Unfortunately this also happened to our third DS - with this 2nd chip.  The third chip has the loaded files but wasn't inserted into the DS so we don't even know if this is a faulty one either.

They haven't been game to try the third one. So, the first one was fine - the claim is that two different consoles failed after the second R4 was inserted in them, and they don't know what the state of the third R4 is because they haven't tried it.

Oh, and in correction to my previous posting - 1, 8 and 17 are the longer fingers - 1,7 and 17 are GND, 8 is VCC, so two GND lines and VCC make contact before any of the signal ones do, when the cartridge is inserted.

Another thought has occurred to me - but I haven't had any experience with the springless R4s yet, so I can't say how likely it is. You may have noticed, as TF chips are inserted and removed, that the paint on their backs can wear away and the copper cross-hatching of what I assume is a ground plane can become visible. Is there any way that a TF could be inserted the wrong way into a springless R4? If it could be inserted far enough, and the paint was worn just enough to allow a short to occur between pins 4 and 6 in the TF slot via the back of the TF, that might result in blown fuses in the DS too. It's a long-shot, but within the realms of what people might be able to do - I've seen 72-pin RAM inserted backwards (with the clips done up, too

), so surely a determined careless person could manage to get a TF into a springless R4 backwards with enough force.

Get it back, and do some tests. Maybe they screwed up, maybe it's a killer cartridge. Either way, it'd be fun to find out what *really* happened. Plus, whichever way this plays out, there's a good chance to get EVERY future sale in this area from every one of their friends. If they screwed up and you helpfully arrange everything (at their cost, of course), you're a lifesaver. If the cartridge is stuffed, and it turns out that all it takes is four fuses to get the two DSs back up and running at your cost, you're a hero too. Either way, play your cards right and this is a great opportunity to distinguish yourself from the competition.
