Hacking r4 card not working?

my boy just bought a r4 card at a market stall with a 2g card told the bloke that it was for his dsi and the bloke said he had it with his sons dsi but he updated by mistake and that the card no longer works on it. Anyway ive just put the card into my boys dsi and all i get is a black screen saying error please keep the power button pressed to turn of the dsi. i dont even get the menu up on the screen?

any help please also ive tryed 2 different micro sd cards in it and both the same and my boys dsi is on 1.4.1 firmware. cant do any pics of the card as ive not got a cam here but its black with silver writing and says

Unfortunately, I don't think that cart works on a dsi/3ds.

If it does not have the little circle i next to the r4, it will not work with the dsi.

If it does, you can go to the website and download the newest firmware.

Also, make sure to download the panasonic sd formatter on the left to format the sd card correctly.
