QVO 8TB on PS4 Fat

Hi everyone, i found this SSD on sale at 335€ on Amazon and i want to know if it's compatible with my base PS4, i already have a 8TB external drive but i have plenty of games and shitty internet so i really would like to avoid uninstall and reinstall all my digital games every time to free space. I've red that this drive causes some issues on PS4 Pro, but i also red some time ago (a 2022 article) that PS4 Pro is limited to 4TB internal drive and the Fat PS4 support even 8TB SSD and i want to know if somebody already tried this on a old PS4 model.

should be 8 tb internal works on base ps4, (slim and pro only allows max 2tb internal which i find odd they put a hard limit on upgraded models, i myself have a base ps4+ a chinese clone databank (allows you to install 3.5" drives (desktop size) up to 8tb

Thanks, i know some people on reddit are using 4tb SSD because the 8TB model after a power loss can't rebuilt the file system and prompt a format, of course losing everything on the drive. I strangely not found anyone who tried this drive on a base PS4, so i was wondering if the issue still occurs on that or not. I guess the only way to find out is trying, if it goes bonkers i still can return it to Amazon and buy a 4TB one.

Hello there. Sorry for bringing back a 2023 thread, but I have good news for you

After a lot of trial and error (more than 50 times reinstalling the PS4 operating system), i found this:

The 8TB QVO is fine (has no problem with the cache or something)

The problem is the PS4. When the drive is 8TB, it cannot check for errors after power loss, and it becomes corrupted

I found that:

- the console fails when the drive size is 5510 GB ( 5916317450240 bytes ) (11555307520 512-byte sectors)

- when the drive size is 5509 GB ( 5915243708416 bytes ) (11553210368 512-byte sectors) the PS4 checks fine

I made this tests with firmware 11.0 and with a PS4 Slim

So, what you can do is use any 8TB (around 8001563222016 bytes), limited to 5509 GB (yes, you will waste a lot of space, but it's better than 3.6TB

I use Samsung 870 QVO 8TB with my PS4 PRO. Experience no issues. I upgraded from a 4TB model around 8 months ago. I don't know if the same applies with the original (FAT) and / or slim model.

i'm experiencing that "check" problem with 11.0
have you tried disconnecting the power cord while it's on (or in rest mode) ? be careful: you could lose all your storage data

in my case is:
- first, "checking the system storage status" "do not turn off the PS4" "after the check has completed, the PS4 will automatically restart"
- then, "cannot start the PS4" "Connect the DualSock 4 using the USB cable, and then press the PS button"

Currently 12.50, but I had the 8TB since 11.00 (Original FW + JB)

8TB internal or external?

Internal. However, I just checked with attaching a WD My Passport Ultra (2019) 5TB drive. No issues. I have no external 8TB HDD or SSD.

So what I did is I was on 9.00 (JB) when the JB for 11.00 came out I just used Sony's original Full firmware and placed the 8TB SDD. When I placed the 8TB SSD, I installed the firmware and that's it. I ran on 11.00 with 8TB.

in my case is:

And you are not having any USB problems? Perhaps try USB port 2, instead of 1. I think I used port no. 1 for the USB with the firmware.

can you disconnect the power cord of your PS4 while it's on? or in rest mode? just to confirm the 8TB is working fine (and try to reproduce the problem)
