My 1 month old DS Lite's battery has been playing tricks on me... It says on the manual that the battery life of the unit is approx 5-8 hours (on maximum brightness), but when I use my DS on its full charge levels, I can only attain let's say, about 4 hours...

I'm using an old EDGE (white version)
Korean DS Lite,

the games I played in 4 straight hours are plants vs. zombies and final fantasy tactics A2.... (yeah, i use the touch screen most of the time)

can someone tell me if my battery is failing even thought its brand new??

P.S: I Didn't charge it when 1 bought it the first time, the manual that came with the package is written in korea, so I was poorly informed that it should be charged before using it for the first time.. I've searched the net, forums, everywhere and they say that failing to charge the DS Lite for the first time will not affect it's ability to hold a charge...

any response is very well appreciated! Thanks!

The advertised battery life is a poor estimate, 4 hours on full brightness sounds about right.
You'll only get 5-8 hours when it's brand new and when it's been charged correctly (it has to be 100% dead then 100% charged I think)

Look on ebay for a high capacity DS lite battery, I bought one for my psp.

Read this.maybe your ds lite's battery will only last 5-8 hours with a gamecart 4 hours with a flashcart.

QUOTELook on ebay for a high capacity DS lite battery, I bought one for my psp.
I made a 2000mAh battery for my ds lite and it lasts 8 hours longer.

Keep in mind you are using flashcart. Flashcart drains more power than official cartridge.

Don't buy any battery besides Nintendo, as those are mostly fake due to physical constrain.

for a nearly-twelve-hour battery I'd hack into my DS a bit.

It's +8 hours when I use the 2nd brightness level.Used an old battery from a china-phone.I'm not posting pics though.
And there's a 2x2000mAh battery pack for the ds lite that's sold somewhere I forgot. and it lasts 48 hours.

No way... that's not right...

I hope you'll understand my skepticism at your claims without images to back up your words.

48 hours? That seems quite far-fetched. I've used third-party 2000mAh batteries in my DS lite before. They have a better lifespan (for a while) but nothing remotely close to that claim.

The site says 48 hours if I remember correctly.
That wouldn't really seem farfetched with 2 batteries 2000mAh each with the lowest brightness setting.
Could you test your ds lite to see if it can handle a 4000 mAh battery?I'm pretty sure that would blow-up the fuse.

You said you had one before.

Flashcarts drains more power than official cartridge? No wonder my DS Lite gets low-battery so easily.

I said I had a 2000mAh battery.
Not that I had a battery that was not made for the DS and had to modify my DS to make it work.
That's what I'm wanting pictures of.

There was 'testing' done on this... IIRC, the difference was something like 4hrs 30min with official game, 4hrs 15min with flashcard. That's a ~5.5% drop, not all that significant.
Cards like the SuperCardDSTwo which have onboard CPUs are going to be a bigger drain.

I made a nuclear battery for my DS, it lasts 350 years per charge.
But I cannot show you pictures of it (due to government restrictions).

Thanks for the reply!!

Maybe the flashcart explains it... But it's kinda weird that I'm only getting 5-6 hours of gameplay on the lowest brightness setting.. while on maximum brightness. I can play for about 4 hours(totally draining the battery)..

I considered buying a new battery, but if the flashcart is the main cause of the battery consumption, then buying a new battery would be pointless..

How can i differentiate a Fake nintendo Battery from a Genuine Nintendo® Battery?

If you charge your DSL a lot, then the battery isn't going to last as long. I think in the book it says if you reach like 10,000 charges or something like that (i know it's thousands), then the battery is going to not last as long.

It's like with my battery, before I could easily close it, and it still have a full battery the next day. But now it doesn't last long.

NOOOOOOOO. That was with old batteries, when they had that "memory effect". Today's batteries need to be charged before dead, it's recommended that you recharge your DS when it's battery light is red.

So we have here someone that actually believe in anything a Chinese counterfeit product says it could do. Chinese fake batteries are poor in quality and don't deliver what was promised (in mAh and duration). At least they last for some time, but when you realize they are dead for ever.
