Pokemon X/Y will not work with Gateway or any other flashcards because of the saving method they use. You'll need to use a retail cartridge on EmuNAND.

you cant play online with roms, you can play online using legit carts in emunand (ps pokemon doesnt work as a rom so you could only be playing a legit cart or eshop version)

I was using pokemon as a example XD (i own both x and y) but say i buy a gateway flashcart and get a dumped file of Cardfight vanguard well in the game there is a way to go online and have a match with another player is that possible or no?

Online play with any ROM doesn't work.

...are you talking about DS games, or 3DS games? DS games, you probably can do online play and local play. 3DS games, you can do local play ONLY, but online doesn't work at all.

You don't need a 3DS flashcart to play DS games though.

Awwwwwhh ok well thanks guys ill look into in some more i was hoping for online play but thats fine really just as long as i can play imports

If ur 3DS is 4.1-4.5 firmware then u can do:

A) Get a Gateway and play the rom of the game(if its dumped)
B) Get any DS flashcard and use the region free hack (there's a bricking chance but Gateway team said that they are gonna make their own Region Free Hack which probably won't have the brick code in itself)

Atm the latest gateway firmware has bricking code and it should be fixed in the 2.0 Final version( IT SHOULD idk if its gonna).
The older firmware of Gateway doesn't have the brick code so you could use the older version but idk if ur game will work with it.

He can use the latest MT-card firmware instead, that supports region free for retail cards and AFAIK has not bricked anyone yet. It MAY have the same brick chance as 2.0b2 but we really don't know at this point.

Trust me, I know.
$400 for a Japanese standard cobalt blue 3DS and another $60-70 for one game (Project Mirai). I'm just glad I never updated it, so it has more use to me.

im' answering the DM here so maybe someone might find this thread in future and have the answer they are looking for,
basically you can only play online with legitimately owned games, eshop/retail cart.
as for the best card to buy....gateway is "supposed" to be getting multi-rom 100% game compatibility (i.e pokemon and animal crossing) *soon*

but they have been saying this for months now so nobody knows what their interpretation of "soon" actually means, also their latest firmware they released has the potential to brick your console (not good) they where also the first people to make a 3ds flash card and all the rest are either clones or atleast based on gateways code

another option is MT-card, this already has multi-rom, but as of yet (apart from multi-rom) they havent really added anything that wasn't based on the gateway code.

personally it depends on what the users wants it for, MT might be the best option for you imho as you already own the pokemon games so thats not really a big plus for you and their latest firmware is probably the safest option atm.
