Homebrew Questions about DSi?

Please answer to the best of your ability.

1. What exactly (code, feature, etc.) is preventing us from loading custom firmware or commercial roms onto a SD card and to the DSi?

2. What code inside DSi taken pictures enables the DSi to recognize/display the photo and vice-versa?

3. *noob question* Is it possible to save file(s) as a binary file and a .cue file? If so, how?

4. Has any exploit been found in any game/app and if not where do you think it will be most likely to find an exploit?

1. The numeric ID to let the DSi recognizes the software
2. is an uknown format yet. maybe if the file is viewed in some hex or binary data can be figured out. There is a bunch of ppl trying to get this one and the first one.
3. don't think so.
4. No exploit yet, but maybe if the first or the second is done we can get trought no exploit, but in the way the flashcarts are recognized.

To answer a bit more thoroughly... what we're lacking is the public key. The public key is just what it sounds like... it's the password to unlock data and also to show that data is geniune (IE made by nintendo).

What everyone is saying is that it's necessary to have a public key to play software on the DSi... this is not 100% true. We need the key to boot unsigned code... But let's not forget, when the Wii was first hacked we didn't have the public key either. Instead, an exploit was found in Twilight Princess. We basically piggy backed off it's "This software is geniune!" code to play unsigned code till the public key for the Wii was dumped.

Now it's a little harder to do this with the DSi since the save data is stored on the carts instead of the system... but I think a lot of people forget we already have means to alter save data on DS carts and it may be just as possible to do so with DSi carts. There shouldn't be any reason why a DSi compatible cart couldn't have it's save altered while in DS mode (which is what current flashcards can do).


It may be possible that DSi compatible games also use the public key to sign the saves, but that seems unlikely because then it wouldn't work in a traditional DS unless the game too contained the public key (which would be a horrible move on nintendo's part to make). This will probably be the best avenue of attack but it's still a little too early to tell for sure.
