ROM Hack Question Regarding pkmn black2

If one were to simply prefer the play of emulators, and had legally owned the game and decided to play the rom on the emulator,

Would one be able to follow the desume wifi guide to utilize all of black2's online features?

Someone plans to purchase a 3ds, but someone is a bit strapped on cash since the slow season started :\

From what I've read you need a DS firmware dump to use it's ID in order to get online.

Meaning if you have no DS, you can't. There are dumps other people made on the internet, but don't even bother looking for them, as it seems Nintendo blocked those IDs when they found the emulator was online with them.

B2/W2 are DS-compatible anyways, so you could cheap out and get an older DS model and use WEP security.
