Hacking Question about savedata

Hi,
I currently have an old 3DS(1st model) with sysnand 4.5 running gateway with 9.9 emunand. I'm looking to buy a NewXL with 9.2. I want to transfer my MH4U save to the new one. (I read somewhere that to do system transfer the consoles have to be on the same firmware, is it true?)

Should I not succeed in finding a NewXL with 9.2, I'm thinking of playing with the actual (legit) gamecart and have my old one available so I can play with friends. But I still want to transfer my save (which I played with gateway) to the NewXL to play with the legit gamecart.

Sorry if that sounds confusing.

So, is it possible?

Edit: First question - I think you could downgrade the o3ds to 9.5 and system transfer(?) iirc someone did that not too long ago, or could have just been asking about it, I don't recall D=
You could use savedatafiler to extract the save on System 1 and Inject on System2 though.

No, hunt for a =<9.2 or suffer the consequences!
