ROM Hack Question about ROM filenames

What is a MULTi3 ROM? I thought it was a release group, but a lot have it and the name of a release group

EDIT: I've also seen other numbers, 4, 5, 6, ...

There is a release group, however it refers more to the languages a game contains. Multi5 is the traditional 5 languages in Europe (English, French, German, Italian and Spanish), though in practice any 5 languages will do.
