I am considering buying two PSPs: a 1001 with a really old firmware solely to be used for hacking, and a PSP 3000 for not hacking with. My question is: are the custom firmwares for the 1000 series untethered or are they tethered like the ones in the 3000 series?

Do you think it would be a good idea to get a PSP 1000 for hacks and a 3000 for newer games then? or should I do something else?

if you get a 1000 fr hacks then i think you should use promethius 5.50 as the cfw it has the highest compatibility list. ( it is even compatible with no patching kingdom hearts birth by sleep).

So to do that, do you first upgrade to OFW 5.50 then install the CFW? or do you just use a pandora's battery to install this version of 5.50?

I'd prolly need to read a few things first hehe.
Someone around here is selling a used PSP 1000 with no issues at all (he apparenly got it and didn't want it) for $60, so I am tempted to get two PSPs

Our Survey Says ......ERR - ERR!

Wrong.....

Just thought I'd add it depends what you wanna do on your PSP, if your interested in homebrew then I'd say stick with the old fav 5.00 M33-6 as it's got a better compatibility for that, also within seconds of a game being released it's normally patched for all CFW's anyway.
One of the sites I go to get my games are all tested on CFW 5.00 M33-6 before being released, not wanting to start a flame war but I just prefer M33-6.
I'm sure if I've said anything incorrect then Xist will set it right.

Get the 3000 for newer titles if you want, but the 1000 should have custom firmware 5.50 GEND3.

M33 is dead, Dark Alex is gone. While there's no real updates lately for GEN D, most game patches for your backed up UMDs come out within days of release.

GEND3 on your 1000, whatever you want on your 3000, 3000s cannot be fully hacked.

And don't bother with Prometheus. It sucks. Badly.
