Hacking Question about NDS games

I'm noob, just bought a N3DSXL and I want to play NDS on it. I'm willing to buy 3DS games, so I'm going for a flashcard to play only NDS games.

Which flashcard should I get? Do I need to hack my 3DS or something or just put the flashcard in? There is a risk I got banned or something?

R4i Gold 3DS works great for that. I really recommend you hack it though, it's free if you're on the right firmware and you can play DS games without a flashcart.
You most likely will not get banned and you can still play your legit 3DS games.

TWLoader comparability with native rom loading from the SD card is still far from complete, a flashcart is advised over this

Thanks for the answers. Before I buy the R4i gold flashcard I need to know:

1) Do I need to modify my 3ds in order to run it? Or just transfer the roms from PC to flashcard and then put it in the 3ds?

2) I think I update my firmware to 11.6. It will work? Can I still update it further?

nintendo hasnt blocked a ds flashcart in over 4 years. R4i gold 3ds rts will work perfectly on the newest firmware

you just drag and drop the kernel and games to a micro sd card

Look at this https://3ds.guide/ntrboot before you buy the DS flashcart, to make sure you get one compatible with ntrboot. That way if you choose to hack your 3DS later you won't have to buy yet another cart.
