Is it legal to backup a game onto an HDD, and then sell the copy you used to back the game up?

Example: I have Brawl. I back it up onto an HDD to play it with a USB loader. I got tired of the game, so I sold it at gamestop.

Not legal since you no longer own the game physically. By making copies of the game you are technically making copies of the games you bought. So selling it would be impossible, and illegal, it can also technically be called "counter fitting" depending on the situation.
