    Hello,
After installing rxTools and booting into rxMode, I checked my system settings to see which version I was running. Booting rxMode worked, so I pressed the home button to get back to the home menu. Instead of a home menu, I got a black screen. After waiting a minute or two I decided to force it to turn off. Then when I turned it on again, all I got was the same black screen. No backlight, no other lights, except for the blue light. When I use the L+R+A+Up combo, it loads into force update mode.

Is there any way to recover the 3ds? It is an old ambassador 3ds on version 7.1, and I'd rather not update it to the latest version, or use any hardware mod.

It said I was on rx S 7.2, something like that. So it was in rxMode on sysnand.

Try a clean/fresh SD card with nothing on.

I have a feeling you deleted a system title. Did you make a nand backup?

I have not made a change to anything. I did press inject a friendcode to see what the option did, but it couldn't read. After that I booted into rxMode, launched system settings, and returned to the home menu (which gave a black screen). I have not made a nand backup, since I didn't want to make a change to sysnand yet.

Not only did you brick your 3DS, but you didn't make a NAND backup either... I'm sorry to say this friend, but your 3DS is dead. I did the same thing, but I have a NAND backup though.

So there is no way to trick the force update into thinking 7.2 is the latest version?

No this is why you make a Nand backup its the first step in any mod that involves Sysnand. updating "may" fix your 3ds but then your only option would be to buy a sky3ds card.

Hmm, hoped it would be possible like for the Vita...
I thought the rxMode loaded in ram, not get injected into the sysnand. As far as I know I did not make any changes to the sysnand. It's weird, at first it worked, but upon exiting the system settings menu it got bricked :/.

with no nand backup, you only choice is updating to the latest FW.....just be glad you dint mess up something more at least you have the option to update, some people dont even have that after bricking

PS...next time don't mess with stuff if you don't know what it does, some of the options in the rxtools menu are designed for experienced users.....with the hacked rxtools being used as a rom loader i have seen a few people now brick their system by playing with stuff that ought not be played with

What would you recommend? Updating it to 9.8 and stay on that firmware? Or keeping it like this and wait until someone finds an exploit for the forced update mode?

just update, there is very little chance of any exploit in the forced update mode, only way people can feed false updates is by exploiting the system first making the system accept older files as the latest.......none of which would be possible when booting into safe mode

    lesson from this
    A) ALWAYS make a nand backup the first thing you ever do when using any sort of hax
    B) DON'T mess with options unless you understand the implications/uses and have already done step A)

if the hacks mean enough to you, you could get another exploitable system, backup the nand, setup rxtools properly and system transfer your stuff from your old one then sell it on to someone who doesn't care about hacks

Alright, I will keep that in mind. Do you know if the requests/replies for systemversion and latest systemversion are encrypted or not?

Better than having a brick, IMO.

yeah im not 100% sure a update will fix it....it probably will, but updates generally only update system titles, so deleted system titles will be fixed/updated if missing, not sure if a update will fix the movable.sed file which is what i assume was deleted/corrupted in this case

Have you try booting with no SD card? Hoping it would give a no SD error
