New Pokémon Snap is not the only Pokémon game announced today! Indeed, announced today is Pokémon Café Mix which is a "touch-based puzzle" game where you complete puzzles with Pokémon in order to prepare menu items, build friendships, upgrade your own café. Puzzles consist of linking together Pokémon icons before you run out of turns.

More details about the game can be found below as excerpted from the eShop:

Meet and grow your café staff of charming Pokémon eager to help

Recruit Pokémon to help out at the café (in their adorable uniforms) by building friendship and expand your café and menu offerings by completing puzzles. Each Pokémon staff member has a Café Skill that will come in handy during puzzles!

Golden Acorns can help you complete puzzles and recruit more Pokémon!

Earn or purchase Golden Acorns, the in-game currency, and redeem them to regain hearts, continue puzzles, and get helpful items.

As you complete puzzles to build a world-class café, you’ll face obstacles such as sugar cubes, dollops of whipped cream, and tomatoes! Use your puzzle skills to clear them and employ the help of Pokémon’s Café Skills for some extra oomph! In addition to Café Skills, each Pokémon staff member has a specialty. Match a Pokémon’s specialty with the dish or drink you are making for bonuses in puzzles.

Once a day you can invite two randomly-selected Pokémon to your café. Looking for a specific Pokémon to join your staff? With Golden Acorns you can refresh this selection.

In addition to recruiting more Pokémon staff members and growing your collection of menu items, the café itself will expand as you play! Getting new tools or having areas added to your café may even draw in more customers. All the action in Pokémon Café Mix unfolds in a playful art style that brings out the cuteness of your Pokémon pals and patrons. It’s time to become a café owner, solve puzzles, and bring joy to Pokémon patrons!

Nintendo says that Pokémon Café Mix is a free-to-start game on the Switch with in-app purchases and is slated to release next week on June 23rd.

Darn, reading Pokemon Puzzle I was hoping for a new Puzzle League ...

I think the last "tetris attack" like game was for the 3ds a few years ago then Pokemon Puzzle on the N64 and before Tetris Attack for the SNES ?

I loved those games especially the first one for SNES with its cute Characters and all but NO noones making games like that anymore :(

Got the game pre-loaded on my Switch, time to wait a week.

I mean, to be fair, if it was a new Puzzle League game, wouldn't it have 'Puzzle League' in the title?

The pokemon has at least brought something "good" in recent years.
It has shown just what it's like when a beloved series gets milked to the last drop of cash it has left without outright killing it.

Well as it was never called that outside of JP I actually meant "Tetris Attack" or "Puzzle League"

Nah they changed the name more then just once so that wouldn't have been a big surprise

I mean yeah kinda but it was never called anything in its legitimate original form outside of Japan
It was always weirdly reskinned
Kinda like Puyo Puyo, except Puyo Puyo escaped that fate a few years ago

Pokemon Puzzle League 2?

Heavy on the Nintendo 64 Pokemon nostalgia it seems.

Will we get a Pokemon Stadium for Switch next? Or maybe a new Hey You, Pikachu!

The last "free-to-play" game I actually had some measure of fun with was Pokemon Picross. The transactions could have been a lot cheaper, and the timers not so quickly depleted, but I still had fun with it.

Pokemon Rumble Rush is shutting down, so there's certainly no guarantee of success.

Animal Crossing Puzzle League was included in the Welcome Amiibo update for ACNL on the 3DS. And Panel de Pon itself was just rerelased on the Switch. While it is a fine game, I don't think there's a great deal anyone could do to improve it that would entice people to pay for it.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
    run h2testw on it
