So when someone makes a donation, that donation is held in a bank account somewhere accumalating interest until the goal/deadline is reached?

As far as I ever gathered when you make a pledge, unless the goal is met, you don't have to pay.

Yes. However within 1.5-48 hours of reaching the goal all the money pledged gets with drawn from people's credit/debit card or bank account. This means any extra money pledged after the goal is met but before time is up automatically gets taken from those who pledged.

Although it's a bad thing, note that the dev never said they didn't have money (right?) so technically they are finding donors. Unless kickstarter policy specifically says that you should show yourself ONLY if you don't have the money. People should be aware of what they are doing themselves too.

Taking a different spin on this, publishers nowadays are so scared of taking risks on anything. Maybe kickstarter can alleviate that.

But isn't that the publisher's purpose? If they're not willing to take the risk why should they be involved in the project at all?

If the publisher is getting "Kickstarted" the money to publish the games, then the developer themselves may as well do it so they don't have to share a cut with a publisher in the first place.
