Of you get one you are still limited to temporary custom firmware. It has to be reactivated every time the psp is completely shut down.

Trust me, you don't want to be reinstalling CFW every time you shut off your PSP. Just go with a red GoW PSP 2000 and hack it. It's very stylish. Or if you prefer, just get the ice silver Daxter PSP 2000 and get a green case.

3000 with temporary firmware is not as bad as you make it out to be. You can`t shut PSP down but why would you ever do it? Even if it crashed you can quickly mod it again in 2 minutes top. I see little downside to buying 3000. It is also still available in some shops, I bought mine Motorstorm bundle 1 month ago. As long as you buy a specific bundle, you have nothing to worry about.

The downfall of CFW on the 3000 is not just having to re-load it every time you turn the PSP on... If a 6.XX CFW is ever release (however unlikely it may be) 3000 users will be even less likely to get it unless another kernel mode exploit is found in the 6.XX firmware.

As well as that if you have a 1000 or early 2000 model you can do almost whatever you want to it software related without worrying about bricking it because you can just restore using a pandora battery.
