Are there any replacement pads that are more elevated than the original?

Can I use something else instead of the NES sleeve?

Nope...it has to absolutely positively be ONLY the NES sleeve plastic. The forces of Sony and Nintendo combined empower the mod.









But back in reality, just find some semi-flexible plastic which is -ish thick.

I gathered a copled pieces of variably thick paper around the house and picked which I liked the feel of best.

And just a heads up, you'll probably have to recalibrate your analog nub when you're done.
