Just curious if the PSP can play AVI files now? Around '09 or '10 it couldn't, but I'm hoping that either Sony made them playable on PSP via update or someone made a homebrew app that allows them to be played. Thanks in advance! 
you could play movies, but it needed to be converted, i dont remember the format, however, there's probably a homebrew for that... there is toons of homebrew for psp..

there is a plugin that display them on the wii u menu, pretty sure it is enabled by default -

I don't have a wii u anymore to test it myself, but if homebrews are not visible on the wii u menu I think you can press L + R + minus to open the plugin menu, there should be an option called "homebrews on wii u menu" or something similar
