PS1/2 PSone - Disc-swap with foreign backups?

I have an unmodified NTSC-U PSone, and disc-swapping works fine.

I want to make backups of a few NTSC-J games (Vib-Ribbon and Mr. Driller G), but before I go about wasting any CD-Rs, I want to know if I can play NTSC-J backups using the disc-swap method. I searched all over Google and here, but haven't found an answer.

hum not sure.... i know ive used swap in past but i really dont remember if i tried other Regions

I'm not willing to waste a CD-R if it won't work.

It will work however you need to change the region boot code of your disc images using Patch-it or a similar application - there's plenty of those online.

EDIT: Due to the fact that the application is hosted on a ROM/ISO site, I can't really link you to it. What I can say is that if you google:

It pops up as one of the top results.
