When the HDDVD key was leaked and people were posting it everywhere legal notices were sent around and that just made it worse, check the article for more info.

You can find commentary from the US bar stating the illegality of posting an encryption key is questionable.

Please refrain from posting the MasterKey. Since it is akin to the Wii Common Key, it is actually copyrighted material. People are free to Google for it, though.

Also, having a source would be nice.

well actually, despite what most think the wii common key is too short to be copyrighted - hence why it is displayed with pride on hackmii
