Today i got an update (ik i'm late, but didn't used PS3 for a while). After downloading it, it begun to install, but on some part error windows popped out and console restarted. After it I started getting error 8002f334. What should I do about it?

Also, I have checked online about it, and people said I should reformat HDD. Since I have cfw on it, will this delete my CFW or is there a way to save it?

I need to reformat my HDD first then most likely install cfw again. Also will this delete my old saves?

Probably but if you can backup saves, try it (ps3 xmb or other homebrew app idk, search) but if you format hdd (full) you maybe need downgrade ps3 to 3.55 (idk, need some search)

I recently gave my hacked PS3 slim (NOR CECH-2501A) to a friend and when they tried updating to OFW it's been stuck getting an error (8002f334) at 54%. I read that it's the PS3's CFW preventing the update, but now the PS3 is stuck in an update loop and there's no way to cancel it or go to safe mode. I've seen that other people have had the same issue and were forced to format their PS3's HDD. I'd like to avoid that and get the PS3 running OFW.

My question is: is it possible to swap out the old HDD with a new HDD, install OFW, and swap back the old HDD to fix this update loop?

EDIT: I was able to do it. Here's what I did:

  1. Take out old HDD and put in the new HDD
  2. Turn on PS3 and it'll ask you to press Select and Start to update to x.x
  3. From here the new HDD will be formatted (it'll warn you) and prep'd for the update
  4. Do update and go through the setup process until you're at the usual XMB. Here I checked if PSN worked, what firmware I was at, etc.
  5. Turn off PS3, remove the new HDD, and put in the old HDD instead
  6. repeat the earlier steps (2-4), except it shouldn't have a warning about formatting your HDD
After all that I was able to boot the PS3 regularly and nothing was deleted. I was able to sign on to PSN and backup saves and stuff. From here I'm letting my friend decide if they want to format it. I personally would do it just to be safe.
