I'm planning on buying a second PS3 for homebrew and backup purposes, so I have a few questions :

- I'll change the internal HDD. What's the maximum size I can get ?
- How many backup loaders are available, and which one has the best compatibility ?
- Is there a .ISO loader ?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
1. The max size 2.5" hdd that will fit in a PS3 is 750GB because it only has 2 platters inside the enclosure and therefore 9.5mm high. 1TB 2.5" hdds (which have 3 platters) are 12mm in height and will not fit in the 9.5mm PS3 tray.

2. There are several backup loaders currently available. Compatibility is dependent on "payloads" and choice of CFW. It is possible to have multiple backup loaders on a jb'd or CFW'd PS3 so picking only one is a matter of preference and taste.

3. There are no .iso loaders to my knowledge as of yet. Blu-ray PS3 games rely on a folder hierarchy system with intermittent rechecking of content that at times is triggered via optical drive "spinning."
It's just a CFW that allows you to install a loader of your choosing. There's a few out there: multiman, gaia, rogero's. They are all very similar with their minor differences here and there.

Maximum size physically is 9.5mm(unless you destroy a part of the ps3 to let that fit in there)
The HDD DigitalDeviant posted was 12.5mm.

Try either

As for size in terms of TB, probably 3TB max (note probably), but 3tb 2.5"/9.5mm hdd hasn't been made yet.

Depends on which fw you are on.
If the ps3 comes with 3.55, I suggest you install 3.55 kmeaws cfw (instructions via google)
If the ps3 comes with <3.5 then you could just jailbreak it and play that way.

As for backup loaders...for kmeaws 3.55 cfw
Multiman v1.13.00
Gaia Manager v2.02
Both have their ups and downs.

No.
The backup loaders load up files that come from the disk.
They just rip the files of the disk and store it on the hdd.
