Gaming PS2 games for PS3 soon?

I'm not really sure if this is new info or if it's even true, but my friend who works for gamestop talked to his manager who went to some convention or something for gamestop employees heard Ps2 games will be able to be played soon. Has anyone else heard about this? Not sure i can believe it just yet.

It's already possible, but only for some kinds of PS3s

Your friend is probably just making stuff up.

Furthermore, if they were to sell PS2 games on the PSN I imagine they'd be overpriced.

Usually PS2 games being available for PS3 is the re-sale of PS3 formatted PS2 games (GOW collections, upcoming Sly)

Just kidding, but I did hear the rummor of the add-on to play PS2 games tho.

That would be awesome, it would require the firmware support for additional hardware to work like that.

Which means it may be possible to do some software changes to trick the PS3 in believing it is using one of these things, instead just loading from HDD
