I'm looking to get a PS2 fat console to play games from HDD with the network adapter. What's the best version for this?

I'm currently looking at 39001 and 50001 and I've seen conflicting information about reliability, fan noise, etc.

In terms of fan noise and reliability, it's more down to how the console has been treated over its lifetime rather than specific revisions.
...but, when it comes to the different revisions it's worth bearing in mind if you'd benefit from one that can be "mechapwnd" or use tonyhax.

after having two hard drives failing (just old), i've already placed on order on this, MC2SIO, PS2 games from a Memory Card.

Nice! My current working PS2 is the slim 900xx which isn't compatible, but I do have a slim 700xx that stopped reading discs. I signed up for the waitlist.

IIRC with a 39K model, you can get a fan from a 50k model to work on it. 39K models however have better lasers if that matters, and you can't swap it to the 50k model it and vice versa.. but it doesn't matter if the laser stops working, you can get one as they're are so cheap nowadays, if you ever wish to use one.

Will games installed to HDD bypass region check? There's some English patched Jp region games I'd like to try.
Yes, out of region games can be played, same for SMB and USB users, provided the game is compatible of course. Make sure it's properly patched,or do it yourself, as some of those pre-patched isos from the internet can be corrupted/ or poorly patched..
