Hacking PS Media Player without updating?

Possible? Have a friend with an older FW that he's sitting on and he wants to use the PS4 to play movies from USB. Methinks this isn't possible, what say ye?

And he didn't even bother to test it, but you decided to ask it here for no obvious reason? If it can't play a thing and he decided to sit out from the update, it's his problem, not yours nor ours.

Thank you for your contribution Captain Cunty, I salute you. He asked me, I tried with a USB filled with movies/tunes, looked into it, created the /MUSIC/ folder so the MP3 player would show (which is otherwise hidden), no sign of the Media Player, online says it has to be downloaded separately and isn't a FW feature but all videos referring to such were from the 3.00 days hence why I asked.

Enough detail for you now my pedantic little friend? Good boy.

Of all the devices he can have in 2017, he decided to play his god damn MP3s on a PS4 with mid-2015 firmware. No, no one cares about his 3.00 PS4 can't play some sh*tty MP3.

Still it's not hacking/homebrew related, at least go to the right place for that.
