does anyone know of a good working adapter for the ps1 classic mini to use a ps1 analog controller with the system?

i plan to mod the system when i get it so i can do to it what i did with my nes, snes, and sega minis

but to do that, i need an analog controller for the joystick games like ape escape

and i would really prefer not to drop hundreds of dollars on multiple adapters to see what works and what doesn't

Technically depends on which real PS controller you want to use and if wired or wireless (for those with both options).

i wasn't aware there were wireless controllers for the ps1

There are usb to ps1 adapter if you want to use original PS1 controller, you can also use usb to bluetooth dongle such as 8bitdo one, or magic ns if you want to use a more modern controller

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=usb+to+ps1+adapter&crid=A5WO2UETYVNV&sprefix=usb+to+ps1,aps,110&ref=nb_sb_ss_p13n-pd-dpltr-ranker_1_10
i saw those but i don't know which ones are compatible and will work with the playstation classic though

Since it is amazon if it doesn't work you can always return it.

Sorry, I missed you saying PS1 controller and thought you just said PS controller so I wasn't sure which PlayStation system's controller you meant.

That said, this is the adapter I've actually used myself before with the PSC. It doesn't seem to be available on Amazon anymore but perhaps still is elsewhere. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0096PSFBG

Keep in mind you will need to set retroarch as your chosen emulator instead of the stock one for this to work without also pairing it with a magic-ns or magic-x as well. If you go that route, make sure the magic device you choose specifically lists PSC support.

i have been trying to find that adapter but haven't had any luck

but i have found a way to get an 8bitdo psc adapter, but the prices are ridiculous for used products

but is retroarch the only way to mod the psc?

cause i used a completely different kernal flash for the snes, nes, and sega minis i own

yes, but i don't have the funds to be buying 30+ items to find one that works

that's why i am asking people if they have a model that worked for them

It should work, I didn't use wired ps1 controller when I had a ps1 classic but I did use 8bitdo with it. Those usb to ps1 controller should work fine.

If you're willing to use an 8bitdo wireless adapter and a PS3/PS4/PS5 or other controller, you don't have to get the PSC specific one unless you wanted the grey color. They don't really make them anymore because the v1 & v2 8bitdo brick adapters have a PSC mode now, making the PSC specific adapter a waste to produce/own. Just know that if you want to use a PS5 or XSX controller you will need the v2 adapter. The v1 adapter stops with PS4 & Xbox One controller support as far as official Sony and Microsoft controllers go. The v1 is still fully supported and gets firmware updates, it just supposedly can't talk to the tech in the newest gen controllers. Not sure if that's a BT vs BT LE thing or what.

Most of the reason to mod the PSC is to get retroarch as a backend for emulation. It's PS1 emulation is superior to the stock emulator. Depending on which mod you choose to do, you can keep stock UI and not know retroarch is even there, have a mix of stock and RA for other systems and optionally (per game) for PS1 as well, dual boot psudo-stock and RA's own GUI - there are many options. Some options require or optionally offer a external USB storage support and/or a new kernel. Some hive lightgun support and network support too.

If you choose to use the 8bitdo wireless adapters in PSC mode, then you can work with both stock emulation and retroarch - but I honestly don't know if the stock emulator has any analog input support. I have never tried to add a game that requires analog input and use the stock emulator to see if the stock emulator will accept analog controls at all.
