Hi, I have been doing some hacking for the ROM of PLCV (Professor Layton and the Curious Village), and I wonder how do you change the graphics in this game. I'm new to DS rom hacking, and thus far have only changed dialog.

So, is there a general tool to edit the graphics (2D) of a DS Game? I would also like a tool that can edit the sound/music in the game, does anyone know a tool for that?

Tinke will do this for you. You can edit both graphics and sounds using it. Or at least extract them and inject them, editing of the actual files will have to be done outside of tinke. But images can easily be edited using photoshop or paint.net (or other image editing software). And sound is can be extracted as WAV files and can easily be replaced by other WAV files (I believe with 21KHz).

A bit late, but to add to this, you can use Kuriimu to edit the .gds files, which include the puzzle titles from the puzzle register, and the puzzle info you see there. There is also a .gds file that has the text of the Inn minigame.

One thing I found while editing DS graphics is that when you import an edited image in earlier versions of Tinke, the colours will appear corrupted if you use more colours than the original file allows. The newest version just doesn't let you import them unless they comply. I haven't tried increasing that allowance yet, but I think using GIMP in indexed colour mode is really convenient if you have no money or programming skills like me ;)
I'm normally the last person to figure out this kind of thing, so I don't know if this will help anyone.
