Hello, my niece borrowed my 3DS to play an entertaiment, when she requested me for more games I realized Nintendogs+Cats would be a very nice addition for her to play, the problem is that almost backup I can get (USA or EU version) installs succesfully but it makes the console crash and reboot in the loading screen (the one of the little dog running). Do you have any ideas? Running 11.2 arm9lh up to date O3DS.

Yeah, all is up to date, tried with different versions also.
"Nintendogs is a special game which ALWAYS requires region presetting.
So you SHOULD always build a TXT file on /luma/locales/ for Nintendogs and enable "Enable region/language emu. and ext code" on Luma settings.

You should report an issue AFTER being done of this.
If you don't, then it's caused by your incomplete preparation of running this game, but not Luma's issue."

Try doing this.

Seems like a solution for me, so... what does need to be inside the txt file?

Enable region/language emulation and external .code: Enables the following two features:
  • The region/language emulation feature allows some games which need a specific language to be set to work, and DLCs for foreign games to load. To use it:
    • Create a folder named locales inside luma.
    • Create a .txt file with game's title id as the name (look them up on www.3dsdb.com).
    • Inside the file,
      • Put 3 characters for the region ("JPN", "USA", "EUR", "AUS", "CHN", "KOR", "TWN").
      • Put an empty space.
      • Put 2 characters for the language ("JP", "EN", "FR", "DE", "IT", "ES", "ZH", "KO", "NL", "PT", "RU", "TW").
    • For example, to play Pokémon™ Y in Japanese language and region:
      • Create 0004000000055E00.txt.
      • Put in JPN JP.
      • Save.
  • The external .code feature allows you to use patched binaries for games. To use it:
    • Create a folder named code_sections inside luma.
    • Obtain a patched code.bin for the game, and rename it with game's title id as the file name (look them up on www.3dsdb.com).
    • For example, to use a patched binary with Pokémon™ Y, rename it to 0004000000055E00.bin.

hi did you get it to work?
I need to try for my daughter.
Yes,it worked perfectly right. Just eremember that in the txt you need to set where the game SHOULD be if it is multitirregion, you can check that in the dabase of titles provided.

I'm also having issues getting Nintendogs + Cats to work on my 3ds. I have the USA version of Golden Retriever & Friends. I have the "Enable game patching" setting enabled in Luma settings and I have created the .txt file in luma/locales/ using both 0004000000030D00.txt (Golden Retriever & Friends USA) and 0004000000030C00 (Golden Retriever & Friends EUR). Inside each of these I have tried various region and language settings (USA EN, EUR EN, AUS EN) but the game still hangs on the loading screen. Is there anything else I can try to fix this?

For anyone still trying to make it work, here what I found, they changed the path and file name used

Locale Emulation: While Luma3DS allows games from all regions to be played via region-free patches, some games will freeze or crash if outside their expected region/locale. To fix this, Luma3DS allows emulating your locale.
  • To use this feature, create a locale.txt inside /luma/titles/TID/ file. Edit this text file to include the region (JPN, USA, EUR, AUS, CHN, KOR, TWN) and language (JP, EN, FR, DE, IT, ES, ZH, KO, NL, PT, RU, TW) separated by space. For example, to play Pokémon Y in the Japanese language and region, I would place a locale.txt in /luma/titles/0004000000055E00 containing the contents JPN JP

The approach described by Rainboy2503 (/luma/titles/TID/locale.txt) worked for me on 2022-04-25.
