Hello guys, first post here and already asking for help. Well, let's start my history. I've decided to resurrect my old Wii after a few years of leaving it be. In the old days, I've used to play games using the uLoader with WBFS partition on HDD and it works really fine. But now I've decided to transfer my HD to FAT32 to be able to play GC games, emulators and so. And then, the problem has started. At first, USB Loader GX and WiiFlow simply didn't boot with the HDD plugged in, have to disconnect and connect again. And then, after loading, the games won't work (black screen problem). I've read a few tutorials and tips (including this forum) and tried all the steps (d2x cios install, looked in every single corner, etcetera...) but no play!
Then I did something that I guess would solve my problems: formatted the Wii System memory and did all the hacking again: Bannerbomb from scratch, until d2x cios and installing the USB loaders. That's ok, apart from having to disconnect the USB drive to make USB Loader GX work, all was fine but then I tried to play a game (Zelda Skyward Sword) and it simply freezes. Tried with other games (DK Country Returns, Wii Sports and Resort), but also no good. I simply don't know what else to do! I don't want to go back to uLoader + WBFS partition, but has been a few days since I come and go trying to make it work, but it doesn't. If anyone can help me, I'll be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

Ahh, before I forget, here's my SysCheck!

    Hello,

Given your syscheck report, the IOS are badly installed, use Modmii to update them ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/modmii-for-windows-official-support-topic.207126/

then repost a new syscheck report, for control, thank you.

USB keys do not work well with Wii, often a black screen or does not start. ==>:nayps3:

RECOMMEND ===> fat 32 external hard drive

    format with ==>http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

and then use wii backup manager to manage your games ==>http://www.wiibackupmanager.co.uk/downloads.html

you can test the following loader ==> Configurable loader v70 :yaywii:

Thanks for the answer. What option should I use in ModMii?

    EDIT:
Searched some tutorials here on the forum and found that I can drag the syscheck to ModMii and it will generate the updated WAD and cIOS. Done that, got me 41 items to install.

Installed all of them, no errors or failures. Formatted the external hard drive to FAT32 using guiformat and WiiBackupManager to put only ONE iso back to HDD.

Tried WiiFlow again, black screen and locks console. (I'll remove him).

Tried USB Loader GX, opens but doesn't recognize HDD at first. Try to force, then it seems to find HDD and show my game (Zelda Skyward Sword). Start the game, black screen...then, I removed the HDD from the USB port and plugged it in again AND...the game started.

Well, I guess it should be something with the HDD itself, the cables or something linked to the hardware itself, right?

Below is my new syscheck, after the ModMii installation. Is that ok for now?

for the new syscheck report, this is correct.

Note that Wii Motion Plus is MANDATORY for your Zelda Skyward Sword game.

For your game try to change the cios 249 by 250 and save, and relaunch your loader.

maybe your hard drive lacks power, see with a Y cable (if you have).

I tested Zelda Skyward Sword with the following three loaders:

usb loader gx (1271) ==> works with cios 249 base 56:yaywii:
configurable loader v70 ==> works with the cios 249 base 56:yaywii:
wiiflow lite (5.4.0) ==> works with the cios 249 base 56:yaywii:

Yes, all my 3 controllers (2 Nintendo originals and 1 from AliExpress) have MotionPlus inside, so that's ok. I've passed the HDD on a diagnostics tool, and the "Reallocated sector count" have a warning so I guess he's not 100% good. I'll try a Y cable and see if if that's an energy problem ‍♂️ I'll let you guys know but anyway thanks in advance

    Hello,

which is good ==> external hard drives which require a lot of power and therefore may not work. Therefore, favor a DD in 2'5 but with a Y connector (double USB), or directly a DD in 3'5 which has its own 220V supply

    Hello.

Yes, I'll buy a Y-cable to my HDD. What I still don't understand is that when it is formatted in WBFS works pretty fine, I'm just having trouble with FAT32 format. But that's OK, at least now my Wii has the correct and updated cIOS and the games are working (despite the unplug-plug ritual).

When the Y cable arrives I'll test and let you know if it works 100% fine. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the tip Sophie-bear. Haven't checked that yet but I guessed he was since I own this HDD and Wii like almost 10 years so, I think GPT doesn't even exist that time haha but just to double-check, plugged the HDD in my computer and verified it: is normal MBR HDD with a FAT32 partition, nothing unusual. The only thing that's not 100% is that he has a Warning on "reallocated sector count".

I think it is really an energy supply problem, gonna wait my Y cable arrives and then check if it goes away. If not, then it's really the HDD health that's bad but gonna let him live a few more time before changing it, because buy a new HDD now will be very expensive since here in Brazil the US Dollar price is too high so, anything that is either electronic or technologic will cost a lot more.

Hey guys, just to update you: my Y cable arrived today and no success, still the same problem when starting the loader or loading any games from him.

Guess maybe it's really an HDD problem, that "reallocated sector count" or whatever. Well, at least the cable wasn't expensive haha gonna leave it be and continue to do the "unplug/plug" ritual to play my games on FAT32.

If anyone have another idea, I'm all ears.

    Thanks everybody.

    Hello,

You have the version of cios d2x like this (version 8 final) ==>

    IOS249 [57] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
    IOS250 [56] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0

Try this version of cios d2x (version 10 beta 52) with this guide ==>https://wii.guide/cios

    and result ??

With the Y cable, did you connect the large cable to port 0 of the wii and the other small cable to connect to the other port?

    Hello.

I've installed the cIOS as per your guide, but still the same. Yes, with the Y cable I've put the large on port 0 and the other on the other port.

What happens is that the HDD seens to make a "dash" to read, then stops, dash again, then stops...and goes on...if I remove and replug the cables, works. Have to do this to load de USB Loader and to load any games.

Idk if it is not really an HDD problem or my Wii USB ports maybe.

Hello Shadow#1, it's my guess now. I've bought a Y cable hoping that was the cable not supplying but It didn't work so, maybe is the HDD itself OR my Wii USB ports have low voltage.

Either way, the game is working, but have to keep plug and unplug when loading the USB Loaders or games.

your hdd and the cable are 3.0? if yes, try with a 2.0 y cable or tape the 3.0 connection of the enclosure.

edit: although i think you are right, it seems to be the hdd, did you scan the hdd for bad sectors?

Hello Somnianti. Yes, my Y cable is 3.0 and I haven't got a 2.0 Y cable to test (and I'm not buying another one haha). Gonna pass the HDD on a scan program to see if there are any read errors or bad blocks that could be causing this issue,

But what gives me the creeps is that the problem only happens on FAT32 format, WBFS runs smooth, no locks, no black screens, nothing.
