ok, so I have a original 3ds (11.8.0-41u), and I followed this video step by step to get homebrew/acnl hacks, and it worked perfectly, I don't think that's the problem, but I just wanted to give you context.

So, I thought to myself, "Hey, why not take this one step further?" So long story short, I try to set my SD card up to get chmm2, right? Well... It keeps crashing on a yellow screen when I try to open it up.

Can anyone tell me if my directories are messed up? or is that not the problem?

Most of the Homebrew in the starter kit are way outdated. Anything relying on the old "hax payloads" to boot is going to red/yellow screen. Use a .CIA theme manager like Anemone, which is included in the actual guide that was followed in the video.

You'll probably want CFW rather than just userland homebrew, CFW can do a lot while plain homebrew can pretty much just do JKSM, anemone, and uh... that's about it.
Frogminer is a totally free method for installing custom firmware, I highly recommend it.
