ROM Hack Problem in Jump Ultimate Stars

This is a really weird problem. I've been playing an English patched version of Jump Ultimate Stars on my Supercard for a while now. I got a new help koma of some guy named Gon Freecs recently, and his power is to heal you wherever you are on the field. So when I call on him, he summons some angle, it flashes, my character flashes, and then nothing. No apparent change to my hp at all. Normally, I'd think that I'm just doing something wrong, but I can't find any mention of this problem anywhere online. What could be the problem here, or is there even one? I don't know, maybe you have to do something special to get it to work.

Same problem for me. Maybe it heals Status Ailments?

Doesn't look like it, unless confused isn't a status ailment. Is anybody using an unpatched rom, or better yet, the actual imported game?
