Recently, I purchased a Powersaves Plus as well as some Powertags, expecting it to allow me to turn those Powertags into Amiibo that I don't own. I set up the device correctly and placed a Powertag onto the device, but there was nothing in the backup / restore menu. Nor did there appear to be anything anywhere else.

I'd heard that you could download .bin files that could then be restored onto a Powertag. I tried putting them on the MicroSD card that came with the Powersaves Plus, in every folder on there, but to no avail. I've even tried using the Powersaves for Amiibo software, which I managed to get to work briefly, but since removing and reinserting the device, no longer works with my Powersaves Plus (even after reinstalling the software).

So how can I make custom amiibo? I'd especially like to get the Legend Of Zelda Breath of the Wild ones, without having to buy them physically of course.

I think you'd need the powersaves for amiibo device (the one that comes with a power tag) I got one at gamestop for $30, those let you restore onto power tags with the software.

Considering I've just forked out £30 for the Powersaves Plus, I'm not thrilled at the idea of purchasing another device..

The (not) funny thing. It says “works with powertag“ on the official website uk.codejunkies.com . So if that is not an bug what you (and me) going trough right now it would be scam

For anybody still having the same problem as OP (or myself), I've written the customer support and received this answer:
Meaning: There is no such functionality implemented. (Even though it would easily be possible.) You only can backup an PowerTag Amiibo you already created beforehand.
So if you want to save downloaded Amiibos onto a blank PowerTag you shouldn't buy the PowerSaves Plus (or the PowerSaves Pro, since it has no Amiibo functionality whatsoever.)
Instead go for the PowerSaves for AMIIBO. Maybe they will update the PowerSaves Plus soft-, hard- or firmware to be the device we wanted in the first place.

I just purchased the PowerSaves Plus and got it in last night. I have been playing around with it, and it does in-fact have support for Amiibos. You can backup any Amiibo onto these Power Tags and use them as a physical Amiibo. Only problem is; the Amiibo files are saved as .amb files, not .bin files.

I have found and tried so many guides, and still have yet to come up with a solution that works when it comes to downloading Amiibo .bin files from the internet and using those.

As it currently looks, the only Amiibo's the PowerSaves Plus can access to save a backup are ones you already currently physically have or have access to.

If anyone has a solution to this, it would be greatly appreciated if you would share your insight.

    Thanks.

They're doing this deliberately to avoid legal troubles. As long as "out of the box" their device doesn't allow you to actually pirate amiibos they "should" be able to avoid the wrath of Nintendo's legal team. That's probably why they're using their own proprietary file format (.amb instead of .bin). Unless somebody comes along and reverse engineers this and releases how they did it, its not going to happen. Datel isn't going to officially support anything like that unless they want to go up against the big N in court lol.

yes you do have to google some amiibo bin files and download them.

hopefully you own at least 1 amiibo. Backup that amiibo with a unique name. Then search on your computer for the folder that amiibo was saved to. copy your downloaded amiibo to that folder. Restart the power saves program. Then I think you hit restore backup or something like that. Then I usually go into settings on the wiiU, under amiibo, I hit reset amiibo. Never had an issue. For BotW, you don't need to do this.

So in other words, go over to my buddy's place and backup his 50 or so amiibo's with my Powersaves Plus, and keep these backups somewhere so I can use them at a later time, lol.
