I was under the impression kids in the US all got recorders in first grade and had to learn to tweet out some basic song on it (usually "Hot Cross Buns" if the memes are to be believed).

actually, no matter how much you play it, other people will never know if you play well or not, if this is the sound intended or not. It will always sounds like a false notes instrument
