Its been stated that 1) "3DS" is the unofficial name, so it doesn't have to stand for Dual Screen. 2) There's been plenty of unconfirmed, but trusty rumors going around the screen "slides" so it'll be just one screen, however it'll be able to be used as two. 3) technically as shown in the picture when there is a bar made across the middle of the screen, there are "virtually" 2 screens.

I do think that this one is a fake, the buttons doesn't look too real. also, there are lightning issues on the screen from the photos..
However, DAMN this is a good idea / design!

The unit in those pictures looks like it's CG.

Nah it looks real. Just the screen looks faked.
That said they get better when simulating the DS mode (though that may be due to how they got the DS screenies) I really hope this is fake it looks good for its own games (if the control pad is a bit cramped) but absolutely crap for DS/i games.

1 screen, ie fake, then its not really a DS anymore.
It's going to be called the 3DS. Therefore the D will not stand for Dual, it will stand for Dimensional.

so it won't have to have two screens to be a DS.

3DS is just a working title
It can still be changed later

Also, what does it matter, this ain't a DS, but the successor so it doesn't need to have 2 screens

As mentioned before - IMHO it's a if it's real - it's a prototype & bound to have changes to it
IIRC - the Dsi prototype had 2 x Slot 1 in it, & THAT never happened

I think control are to cramped for my liking (I have big fingers/thumbs) - & don't like the 'shoulder' buttons on the back

Not sure if I like the idea of the screen being 'exposed' like that, or to the 'twisting' of it (although nice idea IF you were watching videos etc - but surely on-screen touch controls would be better) - I personnally like the idea of closing the DS & protecting the screen(s). Maybe a 'slide up' screen may be better

Also how on earth are you gonna design a 'protective case' for something like this, otherwise you're have to remove it from a case to use it

One other thing - It looks like the cameras are only avaliable when it's open, & that they may swivel (front to back)... How are you gonna make sure both are pointing straight at you for the head-tracking to work properly ??

Pictures are CGI.

I can tell by the pixels and I have seen quite.. nvm, but you get the point.

The article states its a prototype, but it still looks super awesome!

I wasn't actually planning on getting a 3DS but now I'm even thinking of trading in my DSL for one

It just seems so cool and sleek and I'm pretty sure the DS scene might die soon cos everyone is moving onto better tech.

Bravo Nintendo, always going with innovative stuff instead of amping existing things (I'm looking at you high-def graphics)

The pictures are computer generated, look at the table texture and it's weird surface reflection, the edges of the books are perfectly square look at the eleventh pic...
Pretty obvious.

BTW the picture showing a finger in front of the screen is photoshoped, so the finger is real.

The whole thing exists, it looks solid to me but...

Look at that picture to see its complete fakeness, the "LCD Screen" is just black plastic or something, no LCD screen looks like that when off, or on for that matter
Edit for additional comments: ITs also nowhere near recessed enough to be an LCD screen, the shell has to have SOME thickness.

Image still isnt showing

i think it looks proper sweet

i mean its like an IPad with a twist screen feature to reveal controls

shame they dont have 6 buttons because it would be good if they allowed Snes games that u can get off the Wii

NES still possible tho as only requires A & B

they should make it play all old school games that's are older than Game cube

then it would truly be great

Wasn't the 3ds a april fools joke by nintendo?
So doesn't that mean there is no 3ds pictures because there was never a 3ds to begin with meaning there all fake?

it does

Anyone understanding what the article says?
I love the design and having the two screens physically next to each other is genius, you can't really tell the 3D effect in the pics.
I don't like how you would press L and R on the sides but other than that, this looks awesome.
