The Amiibo figures are hardly better than those I got from McDonalds so for the physical toys they're not really that great nor worth the price but for kids to play with, they're all right.

I beg to differ since the McDonalds toys are just hard plastic and made for children to throw around and take a beating. The Skylanders/Disney toys are well crafted and feel like a solid figure when holding. They're not intended to be used in that sort of way and even have a sensor inside to do other things. I'm pretty sure the Amiibos feel just as good as Skylanders and it will be one of the only Nintendo branded figures we will receive that are from the Smash universe and certain figures will be the first time we have something physical from Nintendo aka Ness.

LA @ Have you seen Marth's and Link's shitty curved swords"? The paint job isn't really that great either, oh and Peach was the most unfortunate of all as they dumbed her design to a corny outdated cartoon's face.

Link especially seems to be looking at the piss below him.

Link figures typical have soft swords it is meant for children not for hard core collectors... You can look up any of the previous OoT/MM/PH/WW figures made by any company that isn't Figma and you will find the same sort of design because it is for children so they don't want people stabbing their eyes out then having a lawsuit over it. The paint jobs are fine imo. The Kirby one is likely due to a mistake I highly doubt all of them look like that and there is never a 100% perfect production so why kill over one mistake?

Peach on the other hand looks identical.... I just see it as a light problem of someone who took a quick picture from an angle that was computer generated.

The figures look really good, I dunno what you're smoking.

Amiibo hacking seems possible. Nintendo said the figures can store save data, so it sounds like they will be rewritable. Looks like we'll just have to wait and see.

any attempt to do so will probably just end with a C&D letter like the last time with the Disney Infinity figurines... /edit: or was it Skylanders? yeah, I think it was Skylanders... well, same story anyways
or whoever wants to try it, would have to do and release it completely anonymously

Even if you are able to dump the amiibo (that MAY be mifare but no one verified that on the web until now - Nintendo also uses FeLiCa tags), memory data will probably be encrypted. If someone has an amiibo he can scan it with his compatible (mifare?) mobile phone and look at the tag that is inside.
Skylanders used/use a quite complex way to encrypt data (128-bit AES, ECB mode -zero-byte padding) and the complexity was in the key generation method that was probably obtained reversing the game executable because a couple of parameters were used and elaborated with another algo (detailed documents were available scanning the web with patience and google-fu some months ago, dunno if they are still out there).

EDIT:
Just verified, infos are out there with source code available on github.

They really aren't at least not for collectors who were expecting the finalised version to be as good as the ones shown at E3.

If you can't tell or see the flaws that the finalised Amiibos have then it's good for you.

Does it matter that it is encrypted?
We dont want to edit it. If you just copy the whole encrypted data it should work the same as original thing.

Well, in that way you will clone the amiibo in a simple ugly-white-tag and children will not like it ! If you want to do something coolfor a children you have to say him "I will make your amiibo great" and not give him a naked blank tag. Anyway cloning is in no way "hacking" it represents simply copying.

"Identical" lol

A few differences. Cheek bones increased in size. Dress went from being textured designs to simply painted. Design detail lowered for mass production cost reduction.

I think that all the data is already in the game and scanning Amiibo will just unlock it.
So even if you edit it, it wont do anything.

No, they are meant to store the statistics about themselves, aren't they? You are supposed to be able to take your Amiibo, and go fight it at someone else's house, on their Wii U, which wouldn't have your data. Otherwise, what's the point in having them be a physical object, other then to make money from idiot fans? I want to be able to take my characters and whatnot and play with them on someone else's Wii U.

Actually, I could see Amiibo cloning to be useful. I know I'm personally looking to collecte them just for fun and if I can clone the RFID signature while keeping it in the box that would be a bonus for me. I realize this is probably not the case with most, as said before people would most likely abuse it so they don't have to buy the amiibo.

I don't think you'd get close enough to it while it's in the packaging. There's no point in collecting them really, because a lot of other people are doing that. These will never appreciate enough in value to be worth it. In 20 years, they might be worth $20 each.

Pretty much this
Unless it was ultra limited production, but its not
Its mass produced where millions will be made and sold of the same figure

I find it pretty funny every time nintendo releases something, the collectors think it will be worth thousands some day

Okay so you are upset about one thing really? The cheek bones is something you can barely make out in the E3 photo against the final photo. I'm more surprised they increased her finger size but that is likely due to you know children breaking them off. I just see most of the design changes that people are pissed about something I would be pissed about if they were $50 but they are for children at $13 a figure.
