Hi everyone!

I just acquired a Wii in Japan that's on firmware version 4.3J. I have no concerns about the standard soft mod process, but I think in the past I had an issue where a Japanese wii using GX Loader was frequently having issues crashing when trying to load NA games, but Japanese would work fine. It was a quite a long time ago, so I'm not sure which GX loader version I was using or what settings I may, or may not, have been using at the time.

I was considering region changing the console to North America, but I kind of like the Japanese language interface since I'm able to understand enough Japanese.

So, my question is:

If I do the soft mod (as Japanese region), but have issues launching non-Japanese titles, is it possible for me to perform the region change process at that point or do I need to make a decision about that before I do the soft mod? I haven't started the soft mod process yet, so I thought it's better to check here before I do something that's irreversible.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can.

With soft mod you can play any region (free region).

Thanks for the reply, but maybe my explanation wasn't completely clear.

For example, I am familiar that with GX Loader you should be able to play games from any region. However, in the past I seemed to have some issues with crashing / games not loading from North America region on a Japanese soft modded system (I don't own that system anymore to check).

I was considering changing the nand so that the Japanese Wii I got can be changed to North America region in order to avoid the issue I had in the past. I'd like to just keep the current Wii as Japanese region, but I'm worried I'll have the problem again.

So, my question is, *IF* I did the softmod with the stock Japanese Wii, but had issues in GX Loader... is it still possible to flash the nand to a North America region or would I be stuck with the Japanese region.

I hope that makes sense. Sorry for any confusion.

Yes, It still possible.

You can change the region of a softmoded Wii at any time to any region you want.

Thanks for the confirmation. For now, I'll try with the Japanese OS and if I have issues, I'll check into changing to North America region.
